The Behavior Project was founded on the belief that early intervention should be both highly effective and deeply compassionate.

After spending more than two decades working with young children and their families, Dr. Kate saw the opportunity to create an ABA program that looked and felt different, one where learning happens through play, relationships, and meaningful everyday experiences while remaining firmly rooted in the science of behavior analysis.

In 2018, that vision became The Behavior Project. What started with one clinic has grown into a trusted early intervention provider serving families throughout the Kansas City community, while remaining committed to the same values that inspired it from the beginning: clinical excellence, collaboration with families, and helping every child build confidence, independence, and lasting success.

Founded On Big Hearts And A Desire To Serve Others

ALLOW US TO INTRODUCE OURSELVES

Rooted in the Kansas City Community

The Behavior Project is locally owned and operated, which means the people leading the organization are the same people families know and see in the clinics. Clinical decisions aren't made from a distant corporate office, they're made by leaders who are actively involved in the day-to-day care of the children and families we serve.

That local presence allows us to remain responsive, collaborate closely with families and referral partners, and continually refine our programs based on the needs of our community.

Beyond the clinic, we value opportunities to support local organizations and initiatives that benefit children and families. More importantly, we're committed to building lasting relationships with the families who trust us with their child's care and with the professionals who support them throughout their journey.

our approach

Every child deserves an individualized approach to therapy. Rather than relying on one-size-fits-all programming, our clinical team designs treatment around each child's strengths, interests, and developmental needs. By combining evidence-based ABA with play, relationships, and natural learning opportunities, we create an environment where learning feels engaging and purposeful.

our commitment

We know that no one knows your child better than you. That's why we believe parents and caregivers are essential members of the treatment team. Through ongoing communication, parent support, and collaboration, we work alongside families to build confidence, celebrate progress, and help children succeed both inside and outside the clinic.

Meet Our Founder: Dr. Kate Lamb, BCBA-D/LBA

Kate Lamb's passion for helping children with autism and their families is deeply personal. Inspired by watching her nephew and family navigate an autism diagnosis, she developed a desire to better understand autism and dedicate her career to helping other families access meaningful support and services.

With more than 20 years of experience in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Kate is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst–Doctoral (BCBA-D) and holds a Ph.D. in Behavior Analysis. Her expertise is rooted in early intervention, where she has spent her career helping young children build meaningful skills and supporting families through some of their most important developmental years. Her doctoral research focused on improving the well-being of ABA professionals through self-management strategies, reflecting her belief that exceptional care for children begins with supporting the professionals who provide it.

In founding The Behavior Project, Kate's vision was to create more than just an ABA clinic. She wanted to build a place where children could learn and thrive through play, meaningful relationships, and evidence-based practices while families felt welcomed, supported, and hopeful about their child's future. Under her leadership, The Behavior Project has grown into a trusted provider of early intervention services known for its warm, family-centered approach and commitment to high-quality care.

Kate developed the clinical framework that guides services across all Behavior Project locations. While grounded in the science of ABA, the organization's approach is heavily influenced by Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBIs), which blend developmental science, relationship-building, and play-based learning to create meaningful and engaging learning opportunities for children. She believes children learn best when they are motivated, connected, and able to develop skills within the context of natural interactions and everyday experiences.

Today, Kate leads the clinical vision and strategic direction of The Behavior Project, ensuring that every child and family receives individualized, compassionate, and evidence-based care. She is passionate about helping children develop the skills they need to participate fully in their communities while embracing and celebrating who they are.

Outside of work, Kate serves on the Johnson County Mental Health Advisory Board and enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. Whether she's cheering from the sidelines at football games, attending dance competitions and theater performances, traveling, enjoying the outdoors, or reading a good book, family remains at the center of everything she does.
